FAQ's

How many dogs are walked at any one time?
Penelope's Pooches believe dogs have more fun if they can play and interact with other dogs. Our group walks are kept small with a maximum of 4 dogs per group. Groups are carefully selected with breed, age, sex and personality in mind. All details will be discussed with you at your initial introduction meeting.

Will I meet my dog walker?
Yes. We offer a free face-to-face initial consultation in order to be better understand your dog's personality and individual needs. This will also give you the chance to get to know Penelope's Pooches and ask any questions you might have. Your dog will initially be taken on a small lone walk to allow us time to bond and get to know your pooch on a one to one basis.

Do you arrange pick up and drop off?
We collect your dog from your home/ place of work at an agreed time pre-arranged by yourself. Your dog is then returned after their walk.

Are you insured?
Yes. Penelope's Pooches are fully insured. Please feel free to ask for a copy of our insurance documentation.

Do I need to be home when you collect or drop off my dog?
No. Most clients are comfortable sharing a set of keys with Penelope's Pooches. This enables us to collect and drop off your dog even if you are not home. A copy of our Disclosure Scotland Certificate is available to provide peace of mind.

What do I do if I need to cancel?
Please contact us by email or telephone. A minimum of 24 hours notice must be given for no charges to apply.

What do you do in case of an emergency?

Will my dog be supervised at all times?
Yes. Your dog will be under supervision at all times by one of Penelope's Pooches experienced and professional dog walkers. At times of collection and drop off of other dogs, your dog will be harnessed and secured in the vehicle. This time will be kept to a bare minimum.

Routes will be varied to ensure continued stimulation for your pet. Locations will include, Troon beach, Ayr Beach, Prestwick beach, Fullarton Woods, Auchincruive Estate and other adventures.

It is Penelope's Pooches policy to not walk dogs whilst they are in season.

What happens if my dog doesn't get on with another dog?
We carefully select dogs that will walk together. If we find an imbalance within the group, we will rotate accordingly and inform you of our decision. We want all of our dogs to enjoy their walks.

Do you offer your services on weekends and bank holidays?
We will accommodate this where possible, however please contact us for details.

How do you transport the dogs to the walk locations?
Dogs will be walked all on lead to our destination where possible to reduce time in transit and increase their walk time. Where transport is required, this will be via a secured body harness and dog rear headrest seat belts in a fully insured vehicle. Padded non slip mats will also be in place for additional comfort and safety. Harnesses will be provided and fitted according to dog size by Penelope's Pooches.

I only require occasional walks, can you help?
Yes. We are happy to provide services as and when you require, assuming we have diary availability. We recommend that you give us as much notice as possible.

My dog can be aggressive with other dogs and/or people and has to wear a muzzle. Can you still walk them?
Sadly we are unable to walk dogs with aggressive behaviour due to the negative impact this can have on the other dogs within the group. Solo walks are available and can be discussed.

Do you have a veterinarian background?
No, we do not. However, we have worked with and owned dogs of varied breeds for over 10 years. We appreciate they all have different needs and through understanding have built a very close relationship with our local vet. We have also certified in canine first aid and always carry a first aid kit.

Would you stay overnight at a customer's home to care for dogs?
Unfortunately this is not a service we currently provide.

We just got a puppy and we both work. What services do you provide for a puppy?
Puppies usually have to go out every 2-3 hours. For example, if you are gone for 8 hours, we will come over twice during the day and let your puppy out for toilet, any feeding and to cuddle them. Having a dog walker for a puppy makes training much easier as we will work with them to achieve basic commands of heel, sit and stay. We will also be able to introduce them to other dogs and thus encouraging their socialisation once they have received their vaccinations.

Can dogs stay with you?
Unfortunately this is not a service we currently provide.

What happens in bad weather?
We get wet! We do ask that you leave a towel and if you have a hose, that we have access to this. We are total sticklers for hygiene at Penelope's Pooches, meaning all dogs will be rubbed down and towel dried prior to returning them to you indoors.

Do you walk dogs off the lead?
It depends on what you'd prefer- but generally yes. If your dog is a little bit rusty on their recall then we can keep them on a long lead, still allowing them to run and play safety. We will only let your dog off the lead once we have written consent and it is safe to do so.

Can you administer my pet's medication?
Penelope's Pooches are happy to administer medication to your pet(s) in accordance with your written instructions and consent.

Do your services cater for all dog breeds?
We take each dog on its own merit and not on 'reputation' of particular breeds. We meet all dogs before we walk them and each new dog is subject to a trial period. Any instances of aggressive behaviour will be assessed and investigated. We reserve the right to refuse to walk any dog.

When are you available to walk my dog?
We are available Monday to Friday. 9:15am to 3pm.

What are your terms and conditions?
A copy of our terms and conditions are provided to each client at our initial meeting.
